Vitor's diary: Search for the mountain quizmaster

Our assistant coach provides exclusive insights from our training camp

Our assistant coach Vitor Matos is using a diary to provide glimpses behind the scenes of our training camp in Saalfelden.

There was no training on Sunday, but there was still plenty going on. In his seventh diary entry, the 36-year-old Portuguese coach spoke about a team evening at a mountain hut and recovery planning.

Sunday 14 July 2024

Dear FC Red Bull Salzburg fans,

It was a day for the team and a day for the club. We keep building togetherness among the team. One of the main goals of the training camp was creating a stronger bond between everyone, and we can only do that with time. The aim is creating a common feeling and an emotional bond that can really be felt on the pitch. Exposure gives composure, and that’s what we want now.

The marketing and communication staff created a brilliant team activity for this purpose. A quiz in a beautiful place in the mountains.

The teams were organised in a way that the staff and players were mixed, and the team finishing last needed to sing in the end. The questions were carefully chosen in order for us all to get to know a bit more about everyone, about the club, the city and general culture.

It was really competitive and in the end TEAM HAKA lost, Maurits, Jonas, Kamil, as well as our team psychologist Marek and kitman Hakan therefore needed to put a brilliant performance on by singing Ice Ice Baby….

In the morning, we did recovery and injury prevention groups, with everything organised and coordinated between the medical and fitness department. The different groups had different goals depending of the needs of the players, with everything focused on the homeostasis of the body after the game.

Euro 2024 also finished this evening, and congratulations to Spain! In my opinion, they were the team that played the best and most consistent football of the tournament. Styles of play can be discussed but titles never can.

Des is Soizburg! That is our way!

Until tomorrow,
Vitor Matos
