An own goal from Edmond Tapsoba put Mali in front in the African Cup last 16 tie, but it ended up being a close-run thing. The Eagles won 2-1 against Burkina Faso with Sekou Koita coming on for the final 15 minutes and Dorgeles Nene remaining on the bench.
The hosts are still in the hunt for AFCON glory too. After a 1-1 draw at the end of extra time, Ivory Coast prevailed in a penalty shootout. Youngster Karim Konate did not play in that one.
