Herbert Ilsanker's long era as our Red Bulls' goalkeeping coach is coming to an end with the current season. The 56-year-old is to finish this work at his own request and move into a new role in the summer as a goalkeeper scout as well as a youth goalie coach.
Successor confirmed
Herbert Ilsanker has been on board with the Red Bulls from day one and has become a club icon not only due to his expertise, but also due to his unique character - which he is now to apply to a new role.
The successor of Ilse as goalkeeping coach has been confirmed. 37-year-old Sebastian Baumgartner from Salzburg, who has worked with Herbert Ilsanker since 2022/23, is to take over in the summer.
Herbert Ilsanker made the decision in regard to his health, above all, commenting:
Over the past few years, pain in my knee and back have not made daily work on the training pitch easier. I am still healthy and feel good, which makes it a good time to take on a new role that is less physically demanding, and which I can look forward to. It's great after so many years to have been able to work with my successor for over a year. In my last months as goalkeeping coach, I will do everything I can to end the season successfully with FC Red Bull Salzburg.
Sporting director Bernhard Seonbuchner voiced his respect for the club legend's decision, saying:
The discussions with Herbert were very pleasant and constructive - and they led to a very positive solution for all sides, with Ilse staying and supporting us in scouting and developing goalkeepers.
