Mixed bag in weekend internationals

Sesko provides assist, Camara sinks dream strike

Switzerland had a night to forget on Sunday with a 0-4 defeat in Portugal in the UEFA Nations League. Noah Okafor was brought on in the 62nd minute with the score 0-3. The weekend was similarly disappointing for Benji Sesko, whose Slovenia side were beaten 1-4 by Serbia. Our young attacker did have the consolation of an assist though in a 30th-minute equaliser.

Our boys involved in African Cup of Nations qualifying had a better time. Mali attacked from the start against Congo – quite literally! Mohamed Camara managed to sink a stunner from 20 metres out, with Sekou Koita coming on for the final minutes of Mali's 4-0 win.

In U21 European qualifying, Denmark took an important 3-0 win against Kazakhstan to keep their chance of making the finals alive - via the play-off route in the autumn. Maurits Kjaergaard scored the Danes' second goal in the first half. Belgium are assured of first place in their group and had a goalless draw with Scotland in their final match. Ignace Van der Brempt played for the full 90 minutes.

A thrilling clash of Red Bulls in Vienna awaits tonight. At 20:45 CET, Austria and Denmark are due to face one another in the second match day of the Nations League. It will therefore be Max WΓΆber and Nici Seiwald v Rasmus Kristensen. Both Austria and Denmark had successful starts to the competition, setting things up very nicely. The match will be broadcast live on ORF 1 in Austria.
