The race for the Austrian title is slowly but surely entering the final straight, with the prospect of how soon it can be sealed being raised. We have gone through all the scenarios to see when we might get to lift our ninth title in a row.
Let's get to the facts first - there are still 18 points to play for, and we are 12 ahead of Sturm Graz, and 17 above Rapid. It's a great position to be in ahead of the final stages, but nothing is certain yet. That could change this Sunday when we go away to FAK. We need to win and hope that Sturm Graz lose at home to Rapid Vienna at the same time - which will lead to a rare case of Salzburg fans hoping for a Rapid win.
If we remain 12 points ahead after the weekend, things are completely in our own hands. A win at home to Austria Vienna on Sunday 24 April would secure our ninth title in a row. While theoretically Sturm Graz could still pull level on points in this scenario, head-to-head records are being used to separate teams for the first time this season - and our three wins against Sturm this campaign would be enough to give us the edge there.
