Brazilians retain Next Generation Trophy title

Salzburg academy fourth

At the 15th edition of the world-famous U16 tournament, our co-operation partners and tournament hosts - the Red Bull Football Academy - had a good fourth place. The Next Generation Trophy will go - just like last year - to Brazil and Red Bull Bragantino!

MATCH SUMMARY | FINAL

Red Bull Bragantino 3-1 RB Leipzig (H/T:3-0). Goalscorers: Marques (9'), Silva (18'), Otavio (21') - Clair (26')

Jogo Bonito brings joy at the Red Bull Football Academy! Last year's champions from Brazil showed they were in no mood to relinquish their crown from the start. Leipzig were unable to clear their lines from a free-kick, and Marques smashed the ball spectacularly into the top corner (9'). Silva then doubled the lead from the spot after being fouled in the box (18').

When Otavio smashed in another into the top corner from long range (21'), it was effectively decided. Leipzig tried to mount a comeback, with Clair heading in from short range (26'), but the Brazilians were not going to allow their lead to slip. The South Americans therefore became back-to-back champions of the Next Generation Trophy!

MATCH SUMMARY | THIRD-PLACE PLAY-OFF

Bröndby IF 3-2 Red Bull Football Academy Salzburg (H/T:2-1). Goalscorers: Karlsson Brännlund (7'), Genssler Broberg (15'), Aliko (50+1') - Mbock (8'), Dobis (26')

The first noteworthy chance went in - as Karlsson Brännlund got onto the end of a superb Svart pass and slotted in when one-on-one (7'). The hosts reacted moments later as Joseph Mbock headed a ball from Struber in (8'). The frenetic pace then continued as Genssler Broberg put the Danes in front once more, after a cleared pass landed right at his feet (15').

Dominik Dobis left Tobias Kern's side hoping after taking the ball around Mortensen and slotting in at the start of the second period (26'). Just when the tie seemed to be heading to penalties, Aliko leapt to meet a corner and seal third place for Bröndby IF (50+1').

VIEWS

The boys had a really good Next Generation Trophy and beat top teams like Benfica! We missed out on the chance of making the final in the space of seven semi-final minutes, unfortunately. You could sense both teams were off colour a bit in the third-place play-off.
