Rouven Schröder to become managing director of sport

Contract until 31.12.2028 | Presentation tomorrow with press conference

FC Red Bull Salzburg is pleased to announce the appointment of Rouven Schröder as managing director for sport. The 49-year-old German is joining with immediate effect from RB Leipzig, where he worked as sporting director since April 2023, and takes a newly created position at our Red Bulls.

Lots of experience for more demanding world of football

FC Red Bull Salzburg have made this decision not only because of the unsatisfactory development of recent months, but also due to the hugely increased demands in the areas of transfers, player development and scouting. Rouven Schröder will be supported initially by sporting director Bernhard Seonbuchner, who will then return to the Red Bull Academy, where he worked successfully for many years.

Rouven Schröder brings comprehensive experience to the managing director of sport job thanks to his previous roles as sporting director and head of sport at SV Werder Bremen, 1. FSV Mainz, Schalke 04 and RB Leipzig.

Press conference tomorrow

Rouven Schröder is to be presented tomorrow, Monday 2 December 2024 at 13:00 as part of a press conference with Stephan Reiter at the Red Bull Arena's press conference room.

Views

We have been looking at all kinds of club structures in European football for a long time already. On the basis of our findings, we came to the conclusion that this structural change provides a big chance for the future of our club. With his vast experience and deep understanding for football, Rouven Schröder will play a decisive role in the position of managing director of sport in the development of our Salzburg Way, with fresh verve and new ideas.

Stephan Reiter

The discussions with Stephan Reiter were very positive, and I sense everyone is really looking forward to this exciting new challenge at FC Red Bull Salzburg. The club has gained impressive successes in recent years and is like no other club when it comes to talent development. I can identify 100% with that. I would like to take a close look at everything now and get to know the team as well as possible. I would like to give everything at the same time with everyone here to reverse the current trend as soon as possible, and also drive the long-term sporting development so that FC Red Bull Salzburg continues celebrating successes in the future and puts on exciting and successful football for the fans. We will follow that aim with hard work and a clear vision.
