Off we go to our training camp in Portugal

31 boys on board

Tomorrow (Thursday) our team are travelling to Albufeira to spend nine days preparing for the rest of the season with a training camp in Portugal. Alex Schlager and Co will be put through their paces at the Pine Cliffs Resort Football Center ahead of matches in the UEFA Champions League, UNIQA ÖFB Cup and ADMIRAL Bundesliga.

Salzburg – Frankfurt – Faro – Albufeira

The Red Bulls are to start their journey in the morning in Salzburg, with players, coaches and staff taking a flight via Frankfurt to Faro. The first session in Albufeira, around 35 kiliometres away from the airport, then takes place in the afternoon.

Thomas Letsch has spoken about the importance of the camp ahead of a quick start to the new year with the UEFA Champions League:

We are about to have our first real work of training, as the days ahead of the Bayern match were difficult to manage with a lot of ill players. We are pleased that we will be able to work quietly on details for all our phases of play. We have to defend together compactly as a team while also playing forward with courage when we are in possession and using transitions right. There will also be the chance to get to know the players and staff better. I will have a lot of discussions at the training camp. We have to use the time well, as we have a quick start with the Champions League tie at holders Real Madrid.

31 players, 11 training sessions and one friendly

Thomas Letsch is taking a total of 31 boys - a mix of our regulars and a few ambitious youngsters - to the training camp in Faro. There will be hard work in store every day until Friday 17 January with a friendly against Danish side FC Midtjylland also on the schedule.

Our due to injury is Karim Konate (knee), who is working on his recovery.
Maurits Kjaergaard (ankle) plus Kamil Piatkowski and Nicolas Capaldo (both thigh) will take part – even if some of their training will be individual. Liefering youngsters Tim Trummer and Phillip Verhounig will get a chance to impress.

Here is a list of the players that will be on board when we travel from Salzburg to the Algarve on Thursday.
