It was all Roko 'n' Roll in September, with the UEFA Man of the Match award against Benfica being just one small part of it all. You have voted, and our young striker has won our Player of the Month crown for the very first time – and deservedly so!
An overview of the results:
Roko Simic (48.88%)
It has been just like the proverbial ketchup bottle for our Croat. Having failed to score in his first 15 ADMIRAL Bundesliga appearances, the dam has well and truly burst! He scored twice to win the match 2-0 against SK Rapid, became Man of the Match against Benfica, and was voted into UEFA's official Team of the Week like Strahinja Pavlovic and Aleksa Terzic. Scoring the opener in Lustenau was the cherry on the top of a sensational month for Simic.
Alex Schlager (35.66 %)
Our keeper kept goal for five matches in September – and kept four clean sheets. The game that stood out the most was our legendary evening in Lisbon when Alex turned away everything Benfica's attacking experts had to throw at him. Small wonder the Austrian newspapers called him The Panther of Lisbon – and his contribution to our sensational UEFA Champions League start was simply huge. He also shone on the Austrian stage for his communication with our defenders and his sheer drive.
Samson Baidoo (13.49 %)
He is flawless at the back and packs an attacking threat too! Sammy (from the block) has seized his chance to make a claim to start in our central defence. The boy from Graz scored his second goal of the season, while in Lisbon he had the best challenging figures of all our back four.
Lucas Gourna-Douath (1.97%)
Our relentless Red Bull! He missed only the UNIQA ÖFB Cup game against Austria Salzburg due to illness, otherwise the determined defensive midfielder played every minute of action in September. At the end of the month, Lucas underscored his attributes - winning the most challenges of anyone against Lustenau and winning more interceptions than anyone else on the pitch (ten).
